First Day of the Latin American Adventure

Well, it's our first day in Costa Rica, and the first day of our Latin American experience. We have started off the trip with a bang! Our flights went perfectly. Beautiful landscapes and volcanoes could be seen from the plane.

Based on our readings, we decided to bypass San Jose and go to Alajuela instead. We caught a bus that cost around a $1 each, and quickly found a hotel that was on the budget end, but nice - Hotel Trotamundos.

Took a walk to Parque Central (Central Park) where many locals were relaxing and enjoying a clown and some other entertainers. Many of the women had flowers or their family with them to celebrate Valentines Day.

Then we sat down at La Mansarda restaurant for some Tico cuisine and a few drinks. Towards the end of our meal, we heard some firetruck sirens, which soon became a long and impressive parade of dancers, bands, 4x4s, motorcycles, fire dancers and costumed locals. And we had the perfect view from our second story balcony seats at the restaurant.

And there you have the first day events. Nothing too dramatic, but very fun and enjoyable. Tomorrow, we plan to hike up to the active volcano - Volcan Poas - and some waterfalls.

See you next time!
